How it compares

The M860A is our preferred rental in the high-HP class: the most horsepower in the fleet at 375, backed by the CAT dealer network for parts anywhere in Texas. The Barko 930B and Tigercat M726G are excellent alternates when the Weiler is booked or the terrain favors them. Under ~25 acres of lighter brush, consider mid-size; residential or under 10 acres, the CAT 275 XE.

What you are actually renting

The M860A sits at the top of the Weiler forestry line, and it is the machine we reach for first when a job is large, open and on a deadline. At 375 horsepower it is the most powerful carrier in our fleet, and on a solar footprint or a big ranch tract that shows up directly as acres per day rather than as a number on a spec sheet.

The part most people underrate is support. Weiler forestry equipment is serviced through the CAT dealer network, which in Texas means parts and a technician are rarely far away. On a machine you are paying for by the week, downtime costs more than horsepower saves. That is the honest reason this is our preferred high-HP rental, rather than anything about cut quality.

Where it earns the rate, and where it does not

It earns the rate on open ground with heavy material: mature cedar breaks, mesquite with real root crowns, pine cutover with the slash still down, and any job where the calendar is the binding constraint rather than the budget. Three to five acres a day is the honest planning band on that kind of work, and the top of it is reachable on flat, uniform ground.

It does not earn the rate on small acreage or tight access. Below roughly forty acres, transport and mobilisation start to dominate the bill, and a mid-size dedicated machine on a standard lowboy often costs less all-in even though it clears fewer acres a day. If your place has narrow gates, close-set trees you intend to keep, or an approach a heavy-haul truck cannot turn into, this is the wrong machine and we would rather say so before you book it.

Transport is the part people forget

The M860A moves on heavy-haul equipment, an RGN or a lowboy, and depending on the route that can mean permits. Transport is not included in the rental rate and is quoted by project location. On a straight rental you arrange the haul both ways, though we will coordinate it if that is simpler. The practical advice is to check your site access before you check availability, because gate width and the approach off the county road stop more jobs than machine availability does. The transport guide covers what to look for.

Typical work we send it to

Utility-scale solar site clearing and gen-tie right of way, post-harvest timber site prep on East Texas cutover, large-tract cedar removal in the Hill Country, and ranch brush work measured in hundreds of acres. If your job is smaller than that, start with the mid-size class instead.

Weiler M860A rental questions

Rates are $14,000 per week or $34,000 per month for the high-HP dedicated class, the same across Texas. A month with the end-of-rental teeth and the preventive maintenance handled by us is $42,000. Fuel and transport are not included; transport is quoted by project location. See the full rate card.

Three to five acres a day is the honest planning band on typical Texas brush, and better than that on flat, open ground with uniform material. What actually moves the number is stem density, slope, exposed rock, and how much you are asking the operator to leave standing. Selective work around trees you want to keep can halve it. If you send photos and an acreage we will give you a defensible figure rather than a hopeful one.

All three are purpose-built high-HP dedicated mulchers and all three rent at the same rate, so this is not a price decision. The M860A carries the most horsepower at 375 and is serviced through the CAT dealer network, which is why we treat it as the default. The Barko 930B at 320 HP is a heavily built, straightforward machine that runs well at full load in heat. The Tigercat M726G is the one to ask for when the ground is steep or broken. Availability for your dates often decides it, and we will tell you what we actually have.

Heavy-haul equipment, an RGN or lowboy, and depending on the route and the load, permits. Transport is not included in the rental rate and is quoted per project location. Check your gate width and the approach from the county road before you book, because access stops more jobs than availability does.

For the high-HP dedicated class we require $500,000 inland marine rental coverage and $2,000,000 general liability, with a certificate naming Pierce Equipment Rentals as additional insured and loss payee before the machine ships. Most contractors already carry the liability and add the rented-equipment endorsement. The insurance guide covers what to ask your agent for.

Yes. Turnkey on the high-HP class is $4,000 per 8-hour day plus transport, and that covers the machine, an experienced operator, fuel and maintenance. It tends to be the better value on projects over about 20 acres if your own crew is committed elsewhere. The rent or hire break-even works through the numbers.
