Within high HP: Barko vs Tigercat vs Weiler
All three clear heavy vegetation at rates nothing smaller touches, and all three rent at the same price, so the choice is about fit, not budget.
- Weiler M860A: our preferred rental and the horsepower king at 375 HP, with CAT dealer network support that means parts anywhere in Texas fast. The default pick for most high-HP projects.
- Barko 930B: 320 HP of proven grinding power. In big stem sizes and dense cedar breaks it maintains rotor speed where smaller machines feather. A strong alternate for the heaviest material.
- Tigercat M726G: the terrain machine. Superior stability and tractive effort on slopes and broken Hill Country ground, with Tigercat’s uptime reputation. Pick it when the land is as much the challenge as the vegetation.

Our default recommendation is the Weiler M860A. The Barko and Tigercat are excellent machines we’re glad to put on your project when the Weiler is booked or the terrain calls for them.
Within mid-size: PT-175 vs CMI 175 vs Fecon 150
- Primetech PT-175: the all-rounder; strong production, low ground pressure, happy on sand and wet ground.
- CMI 175: the workhorse; mechanically simple, a bit more grunt in heavier stems, favorite for mesquite flats and South Texas brush.
- Fecon 150: the finisher; finest mulch finish and the most agile in selective clearing. First pick for estate work and keep-tree jobs.
Across classes: the only three questions that matter
- How many acres? Under 10 → skid steer. 10–25 with lighter brush → mid-size. 25+ or any deadline → high HP, the most common answer.
- What’s the biggest stem? Under 8″ → any class. 8–12″ → dedicated. 12″+ → high HP.
- Can a lowboy reach it? No → the 275 XE just won by default.
