Transport
Standard lowboy, no oversize permits on most routes. Quick to mobilize anywhere in Texas.
How it compares
The CMI 175 and Primetech PT-175 are close competitors, both clear 1.5–3 acres a day of typical Texas brush. Availability usually decides. Against the Fecon 150 it brings a bit more grunt in heavier stems; against high-HP machines it trades peak production for much simpler transport.
A simple machine, on purpose
The CMI 175 is a mid-size dedicated mulching tractor with a reputation built on not breaking. It is mechanically straightforward, which on a rental machine matters more than a spec sheet does: fewer systems means less downtime, easier field service, and fewer days where you are paying for a carrier that is sitting still.
It is a strong track machine on sand, caliche and soft ground, which covers most of South and West Texas, and the head options leave a clean, walkable finish rather than a shredded one.
If you came here looking for a CMI 500
Worth saying plainly: we run the 175, not the 500. If you have found this page searching for a larger CMI, what you are probably after is more production per day than a mid-size machine gives, and the honest answer is that our high-HP dedicated class is where that lives. Those machines run three to five acres a day against one and a half to three here, at $14,000 a week instead of $11,000.
The trade is transport. The 175 moves on a standard lowboy; the high-HP machines need heavy haul and sometimes permits. On a short job that difference can wipe out the production advantage, so tell us the acreage and the access and we will tell you which way it falls.
Where it earns the rate
Pasture reclamation and brush eradication, ranch improvement work, mid-size commercial pad and lot clearing, co-op and district right-of-way maintenance, and pond or homestead site prep. The sweet spot is roughly ten to a hundred acres, where a skid steer would take too long and a high-HP carrier costs more to get there than it saves once it arrives.
Mesquite flats, cedar breaks, huisache and retama, and mixed hardwood regrowth are all comfortable material for it.
Typical work we send it to
Ranch cedar and juniper on moderate acreage, South Texas brush reclamation, senderos and food plots on hunting leases, and fence line clearing where the mileage justifies a dedicated carrier.
CMI 175 rental questions
No. Our CMI is the 175, which sits in the mid-size dedicated class at $11,000 per week and one and a half to three acres a day. If you need more production than that, the answer in our fleet is the high-HP class, the Weiler M860A, Tigercat M726G or Barko 930B, at $14,000 a week and three to five acres a day. Tell us the acreage and your access and we will tell you which class actually costs less delivered.
Rates are $11,000 per week or $32,000 per month for the mid-size dedicated class, the same across Texas. There is no daily rate in this class. Fuel and transport are not included and transport is quoted by project location. See the full rate card.
One and a half to three acres a day on typical Texas brush. Open mesquite pasture sits at the top of that band; dense cedar on rocky ground sits at the bottom. It is roughly twice the production of a skid steer and a bit over half that of a high-HP carrier, which is exactly what you would expect from the rate.
Acreage and access decide it. Under about forty acres the mid-size class usually wins on total delivered cost, because a standard lowboy is so much cheaper and simpler than heavy haul. Over about a hundred acres the high-HP class wins clearly, because the extra production compounds across every day of the rental. Between the two it depends on your site access and how hard your deadline is, and we would rather work that out with you than sell you the bigger number.
Standard lowboy, which is the main practical advantage of this class. A mid-size dedicated machine avoids the RGN, the heavy-haul permits and the wider turning requirements that come with the high-HP carriers, and on a shorter job that transport difference can be a meaningful share of the total bill. The transport guide covers what your site access needs to look like.
Mid-size dedicated machines carry the same requirement as the high-HP class: $500,000 inland marine rental coverage and $2,000,000 general liability, with a certificate naming Pierce Equipment Rentals as additional insured and loss payee before the machine ships. The insurance guide covers what to ask your agent for.
Yes. Turnkey pricing depends on machine class and is listed on the rate card; it covers the machine, an experienced operator, fuel and maintenance in one number. If nobody on your crew has real seat time in a mulcher, it is usually the better value, and the rent or hire break-even works through where the line sits.
