Equipment rental questions
A dedicated forestry mulcher is a purpose-built carrier with hydraulics sized for the mulching head, so it sustains full production all day in heavy material. A skid steer with a mulching head is more nimble and far cheaper to move, but it works in shorter bursts and on lighter stems. The production gap between them is the single biggest factor in what a job costs.
Most projects land on either a high-horsepower dedicated machine, when production is the priority, or the CAT 275 XE, when access is tight or the site is residential. The mid-size dedicated machines sit between the two and see less demand. Walk through the Find the Right Machine tool and it will explain the reasoning for your acreage, vegetation, and access.
Yes. Dedicated mulchers go out to qualified contractors with an operator who has run a forestry head before. This is not gatekeeping for its own sake: an inexperienced operator produces a fraction of what an experienced one does, and the rental clock runs either way. If you do not have that operator, turnkey mulching will finish the job faster and usually cheaper.
Dedicated mulchers require $500,000 inland marine rental coverage and $2,000,000 general liability. The CAT 275 XE requires $250,000 inland marine and $2,000,000 general liability. Certificates name Pierce Equipment Rentals as loss payee and additional insured, and have to be in hand before delivery. The insurance guide covers how to get them issued quickly.
Transport is quoted separately by distance and machine class. Dedicated mulchers move on heavy-haul equipment and the route matters, so give us the site address and access details when you call. The CAT 275 XE rents daily at $1,750. Dedicated mulchers rent by the week ($14,000 high-HP, $11,000 mid-size) or the month ($34,000 and $32,000). Full pricing is on the rental rates page.
