Mulching leaves the root mass in the ground and a mulch layer on the surface, which is usually acceptable and often preferred ahead of pile driving. Where the spec calls for grubbing, stump removal or a specific finished grade, mulching is the first pass and an excavator or dozer follows. On a large solar site the usual answer is a mix: you rent one machine for your crew and we bring a second with an operator to hold the schedule.
For the dedicated mulcher classes: $500,000 inland marine rental coverage and $2,000,000 general liability, with a certificate naming Pierce Equipment Rentals as additional insured and loss payee before the machine ships. For the CAT 275 XE skid steer class it is $250,000 inland marine and the same $2,000,000 general liability. If you are already carrying builders risk and CGL on the project, this is normally a phone call to your agent, not a new policy.
