Forestry Mulcher Rental in Johnson City, TX
The heart of the Hill Country, where old family ranches are being cleared for the first time in generations, some for cattle, some for weddings, some for wine.
Trees, not brush
- Vineyard and event-venue site clearing
- Legacy ranch cedar removal
- Exotic and wildlife ranch habitat work
- Scenic corridor clearing along 290
Blanco County holds some of the oldest continuously ranched land in the Hill Country, and much of it is being cleared now for the first time in a generation. That shows up as very mature juniper — trees rather than brush — with heavy live oak and Spanish oak that owners nearly always want preserved. Old fencing is the other constant: net wire grown into trunks and forgotten interior fence lines are common on ground that has changed use several times, and both are hard on a mulching head. Plan the calendar before the machine. Around Johnson City the clean window for juniper-oak ground runs September through January: when to clear cedar in Texas.
Solar site preparation is scheduled work, not acreage work. Access roads and laydown yards first, then fence lines, then the array footprint, with cedar and oak regrowth taken to a uniform grade. If that is the job, the solar site clearing page explains how we run it.
Old wire and older oaks
Estate-quality finish matters on venue and vineyard land, which points to the Fecon 150. Working ranches clearing serious cedar acreage step up to mid-size weekly rentals or high-HP turnkey.

Rent the machine, or hire it done
Blanco County is our closest market, which keeps transport lower here than anywhere else we serve — worth knowing if you are weighing a short rental against turnkey. Legacy ranch clearing is acreage work that rents by the week or month. Vineyard and event-venue sites, and anything where mature oaks have to be preserved, are precise jobs where turnkey at $3,000 a day with transport included usually produces the better result. The rent vs hire guide covers the trade.

Johnson City and Blanco County questions
It is the defining hazard on legacy Blanco County ranches and it is worth walking the tract for before anything starts. Net and barbed wire swallowed by trunks over decades will destroy teeth and can throw fragments. Old interior fences that nobody has used in fifty years are the usual culprit, and they are often invisible until the machine finds them. Show us where the old fence lines ran, even approximately — that map is worth more to us than the acreage figure.
Yes. Much of this county is being cleared for the first time in a generation, so you are dealing with trees rather than brush — single stems with real diameter rather than dense thin regrowth. That is high-HP dedicated machine work. A mid-size mulcher will do it but slowly enough that the cheaper weekly rate stops being cheaper. Tell us what you are actually looking at and we will match it honestly.
Flag every one you want kept, walk the tract with the operator, and think about timing. Oak wilt transmission risk peaks in spring and Texas A&M Forest Service advise against wounding oaks then, so cooler-season work is safer on a tract where the oaks are the asset. On legacy ranches those trees are frequently worth more than the clearing costs, and they are the one thing a mulcher cannot put back.
Mostly the standard of finish. Venue and vineyard ground usually needs a cleaner result than ranch clearing does, which means a slower pass and often a second one, and the mulch mat left behind matters more because people will be walking on it. Tell us the intended use at the quote stage rather than the acreage alone. It changes the day count, and a ranch-grade finish on a venue site disappoints everyone.
