Forestry Mulcher Rental in The Woodlands, TX
The Woodlands was designed around its trees, which makes clearing here surgical by requirement: understory out, canopy untouched, covenants satisfied.
Covenants, reserves and neighbours
- Covenant-compliant understory clearing
- Estate lot thinning and view work
- Reserve and greenbelt edge maintenance
- Fire-fuel reduction under pine canopy
Clearing in and around The Woodlands means working with tree preservation rules, greenbelt reserves, and neighbours within earshot. The jobs are smaller and more precise than open acreage work: understory and yaupon out from under a canopy that has to stay, drainage easements reopened, and reserve edges pulled back without tearing up the ground beneath them.
Small, precise and observed
Selective is the only mode that exists here. The 275 XE with an experienced hand mulches yaupon at the dripline without marking a keeper pine, and our turnkey skid steer service is the usual choice for homeowners.

Rent the machine, or hire it done
This is the most constrained residential market we work in, and almost none of it is rental work. Covenant compliance, tree preservation, reserve boundaries and neighbours within earshot all point the same way: a small machine, an experienced operator and a short, well-planned visit. Turnkey skid steer at $3,000 a day with transport included is the usual answer, and it is genuinely the cheaper one once you count what a mistake costs on a covenanted lot. Larger acreage on the fringes still rents conventionally. The rent vs hire guide explains the trade.
Pricing a job here? The forestry mulching cost guide explains what moves the per-acre number, and the rate sheet shows what a Weiler M860A runs with and without an operator.
| Option | Rate | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| High HP dedicated rental | $14,000/wk · $34,000/mo | Most popular: 25+ acres, heavy stems, deadlines |
| Mid-size dedicated rental | $11,000/wk · $32,000/mo | Lighter brush, 10–25 acre projects |
| CAT 275 XE rental | $1,750/day · $8,000/wk | Under 15 acres, tight access |
| Turnkey, high-HP with operator | $4,000/day + transport | Big acreage, no operator |
| Turnkey, skid steer with operator | $3,000/day incl. transport | Small projects, hands-off |
Rates are the same in every market we serve. See the full rate card for what the rate excludes and how transport is quoted.

The Woodlands and Montgomery County questions
Very probably, and it is the first thing to settle. Covenant and tree preservation requirements here commonly restrict which trees may be removed, what size triggers approval, and how close to a reserve boundary you may work. Get the written approval and the marked limits before we mobilise. Mulching helps at the boundary because it cuts to a line without spoil or windrows spilling past it, which tends to be easier to have signed off than dozing.
Yes, and on these lots it is nearly always the brief. Understory removal under a preserved canopy is exactly what a skid steer mulcher with a good operator does well. Flag anything you want kept. Be aware that working tight to trunks is slow, so a covenanted quarter-acre can take most of a day — that is normal, not padding.
It is a diesel machine with a rotary head, so it is not quiet, and on a lot with neighbours either side that matters. Most jobs here are one to two days. We can work standard daytime hours and avoid weekends where a covenant or an association asks for it — tell us the restriction when you book rather than after a complaint.
Turnkey skid steer at $3,000 a day with transport included covers most residential lots, and many are a single day. Rental of the CAT 275 XE is $1,750 a day if you would rather run it yourself, though on a covenanted lot with trees to preserve we would gently suggest that is the wrong economy.
