Forestry Mulcher Rental in Uvalde, TX
Uvalde is where two clearing problems meet: Hill Country cedar coming down off the plateau and South Texas thorn brush coming up from the plain. We rent forestry mulchers into Uvalde County for ranch, solar and utility work, and run turnkey crews on the acreage that needs to be done rather than managed.
Two ecosystems, one county
- Ashe juniper on the Edwards Plateau escarpment north of town
- Mesquite, blackbrush and whitebrush on the plain south of it
- Solar and utility-scale site clearing
- Rangeland restoration and water-yield brush control
Uvalde County straddles the Balcones Escarpment, and the vegetation splits almost exactly along it. North of town, up on the plateau toward Concan and Utopia, you are in cedar — dense Ashe juniper over thin soil and limestone, with live oak and Spanish oak surviving inside it. South of town the ground flattens and turns to brush country: honey mesquite, blackbrush, whitebrush, guajillo and pear.
Those two problems want different things from a machine and a different plan. Cedar does not resprout from the stump, so a good mulching pass on the plateau is durable and the follow-up is seedling management. Mesquite and huisache on the plain both resprout, so clearing there is the first step of a program rather than the whole of it. Knowing which side of that line your tract sits on changes what the job is worth.
Uvalde County has also drawn utility-scale solar development, and site clearing for a solar build is a different specification again — tighter finish, hard deadlines and a large contiguous footprint. Our solar site clearing page covers what those projects need.
Choosing between plateau and plain
For anything at scale in Uvalde County — plateau cedar, brush country reclamation or a solar footprint — a high-horsepower dedicated mulcher is the machine. The Barko 930B, Tigercat M726G and Weiler M860A all carry enough drive power to stay in mature cedar without backing off, and enough undercarriage to work the escarpment slopes north of town. On a solar site the argument is simpler still: acres per day is the whole game, and nothing else in the fleet competes.
The CAT 275 XE is the right machine for river-lot work along the Nueces and Frio, for homesites around Uvalde and Sabinal, and for any tract where the access road or a gate will not accept a lowboy. Below about fifteen acres, compare the actual totals — day rate plus transport, against a weekly rate on a bigger machine — before assuming the dedicated unit is the answer.
Not sure where your project lands? The machine finder applies the same logic in seven questions, or read the full decision guide.
Rent the machine, or hire it done
Uvalde County work divides by scale rather than by type. Solar footprints and large ranch programmes justify a monthly rental and an operator on site; river lots, homesites and single-pasture jobs do not come close, and turnkey or a day-rate skid steer wins outright. Do not let the acreage on the deed decide it — let the acreage being cleared decide it. See the rent vs hire guide.
If you want the numbers first, the cost guide breaks down what mulching runs per acre and per day, and the rent vs buy calculator shows the point where owning a machine starts to beat renting one.

Uvalde County clearing questions
Brush control for water is a long-standing practice on the Edwards Plateau and Texas has funded programmes around it, but the size of the effect depends heavily on rainfall, soil depth and how much of the watershed you treat. We clear the brush; we are not the right people to model your aquifer response. The Texas A&M Forest Service and your local groundwater conservation district can point you at the research for your specific area.
Yes, on rental or turnkey. Solar clearing is high-horsepower dedicated machine work — the footprint is large, the schedule is fixed and the finish spec is tighter than ranch work because crews and racking follow immediately behind. Read the solar clearing page, then send us the acreage and the target date.
Different, not harder. Cedar is a bigger single stem and a heavier cut. South Texas brush is smaller stems in continuous, thorny density, which is easier per plant but never lets the machine out of the cut. Production rates end up closer than people expect. The real difference is what happens afterward — cedar stays gone, mesquite and huisache come back.
We rent to qualified operators. These are large, expensive machines working on uneven ground, and the insurance requirements reflect that. If you do not have someone who has run one, turnkey is both cheaper and safer than learning on a rental you are financially responsible for — $4,000 a day plus transport for the high-horsepower machines, $3,000 a day including transport for the skid steer.
Sabinal, Knippa, Concan, Utopia, Leakey, Camp Wood, Crystal City and Eagle Pass all run off the same dispatch. Transport is quoted from the machine’s location when you book.
