Forestry Mulcher Rental in Paris, TX

Lamar County carries one of the largest solar developments in the country alongside ordinary Red River farm and ranch land. Very large acreage on one side, pasture and bottomland on the other, and both want machines that cover ground.

What gets cleared in Lamar County

Paris sits in the Red River valley in the far northeast of the state, on a mix of prairie and bottomland. Up on the better-drained ground you are dealing with eastern red cedar, locust and hackberry reclaiming pasture and old cropland. Down toward the river the cover thickens into bottomland hardwood with heavy understory, and the soil stays wet a good deal longer.

Lamar County is also the site of the Samson development, one of the largest utility-scale solar projects in the United States, and that scale of construction changes what clearing looks like here. Solar site work is measured in hundreds or thousands of acres against a construction schedule, run on monthly machine rentals, and specified to a finish grade. Our solar site clearing page covers how those contracts are usually put together.

Scale decides the machine here

On utility-scale acreage there is no serious argument for anything but high horsepower. A Barko 930B, Weiler M860A or Tigercat M726G on a monthly rental at $34,000 gives you a per-acre cost on open ground that nothing smaller approaches, and large contracts frequently run more than one machine at once.

Ordinary Lamar County land work splits the usual way. Pasture reclamation of any size favours a dedicated machine; bottomland understory, fence rows and small tracts go to the CAT 275 XE. Bottomland scheduling deserves particular care in this county — the Red River bottom holds water and there is no point putting a machine on it in the wrong month.

Rent the machine, or hire it done

Lamar County has seen solar construction at a scale that changes the normal answer. Contiguous multi-hundred-acre clearing on a fixed schedule is the one situation where a monthly rental on a high-horsepower machine is comfortably the cheapest option, provided you can keep an operator in it every day. If you cannot, turnkey removes the staffing risk. The rent vs hire guide compares them.

Start with the cost guide for real per-acre numbers, then run your acreage through the cost calculator before you call.

Lamar County clearing questions

Yes, as machine rental to your crews or as turnkey with our operators, and on large contracts with more than one machine subject to fleet availability. Send the acreage, the finish specification and the construction window and we will tell you what we can genuinely commit to rather than what sounds good.

Most specify a maximum residual material size and a consistent surface, because pile driving and racking follow immediately behind clearing. That specification determines pass count and therefore days and cost, so it needs to be agreed before the machine ships rather than discovered afterwards.

When it is dry, which is generally later in the season and never guaranteed. Bottomland soils here hold water and rut badly. If a tract has both upland and bottom, the sensible sequence is upland first and bottom when conditions allow.

We do, and large solar work is where it usually comes up. Availability changes constantly across the fleet, so multi-machine commitments are made against real dates rather than in principle. The earlier you book a window, the more likely we can hold it.
